Original oil, acrylic, and encaustic painting on canvas by William H. Hopper (American, 1935-1999). 24" by 36", a bit more in its original mahogany slat frame. In excellent condition. Signed a number of times, on back and on each stretcher bar; dated 71 to 73; also titled "Infinity" or "Abyss". The painting still retains two typed labels, a personal label with the address of the artist's studio in New York City, and a second exhibition label with the same information.
Hopper was born in Indianapolis. He studied art at the Herron Art Institute of Indiana University, with Charles Burchfield, and with Karl Zerbe at Florida State University.
An impressive painting by a well listed and collected New York abstract expressionist painter.
