Original oil painting on canvas by Jack Wolfe (American, born 1924). This painting is in very good condition and measures 15" by 26" in its gallery frame. Signed l.r. "J.Wolfe" and dated "61". Jack Wolfe was recognized early as one of the most promising abstract expressionist painters (exhibits at the Carnegie Institute in 1955, at the Whitney in 1957 and 1958, at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston in 57, etc. ). His career took an unusual turn when he stopped showing in commercial galleries, spurred by the conviction-- politically motivated-- that the art world was venal. Wolfe however continued to paint in his studio in Stoughton, MA where he is still active to this day. This is the second painting we carry by this artist, and both are very representative of his early work (Provenance: The Betty Esman estate--A photo of the painting was sent to the artist, who authenticated it).
