Original impressionist oil painting on board attributed to Charles Rosen (American, 1878-1950). This painting measures 14" by 18", 19" by 23" in its period frame. It is not signed, but bears the inscription "Charles Rosen, Woodstock, NY" in the artist's handwriting on the back of the period frame. This painting was purchased from the estate of a long time collector of Woodstock artists (it had originally been purchased from a Woodstock gallery). It was exhibited in 2007 at the Woodstock Artists Association Museum--the exhibition was titled "Semblance And Spirit--Portraits by Woodstock Artists" (the exhibition label is still attached to the back of the frame). One must add that the artist's grand-daughter looked at the painting and said it was not by the artist, although she also said that he had produced sketches of family members (information courtesy of Josephine Bloodgood, curator of the exhibition).
