Original oil painting on panel by William Goodson Mangum (American, NC, born 1924). This painting is signed "Mangum" l.r. and still bears an exhibition label from the Winston-Salem Gallery of Fine Arts giving the name of the artist, the title of the painting, and the date 1962. A large (37" by 31") wonderful expressionist portrait of an African-American woman. In excellent original condition, and with its original painted frame. William Goodson Mangum is a North Carolina painter and sculptor who studied at the Corcoran School of Art, at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and at the Arts Students League. He is the author of a book on the portraits of Marino Marini. Well exhibited and listed (cf: Who Was Who in American Art, Askart.com, Artprice.com, etc.).
