This silver runway Jean Paul Gaultier pendant necklace is made up of enameled scarabs of varying sizes and faceted purple and green crystal beads. The large pendant has a center enameled scarab on an Art Nouveau style silver diamond and is embellished with large flat-back colored rhinestones. The crystal necklace hangs down 15 1/2" (39.7cm) (or is a total of 31 1/4" (78cm)). The scarab medallion is 4" (10.5cm) long and a hair less than 2 1/2" (6.7cm) wide. The larger scarabs are 2" (5.5cm) long by 1 1/8" wide. The smaller are 5/8" (1.5cm) x 1/2" (1.2cm).
Please note there is some very minor color loss on the smaller scarabs. This was done during the manufacture (which is done in Gaultier's atelier--none of the work is farmed out). There is clear enamel over the color. It is only noticeable with a very strong magnifying glass.. The center medallion and the two larger scarabs all have the Gaultier cartouche on them. From around 1980, it is in perfect condition except for the manufacturing color loss mentioned above.
