If any one has more information with regard to this item I would appreciate your sending to me. It is not Trifari because their is virtually no unsigned Trifari from this time frame. Trifari's adds state that jewelry they make is not authentic unless it is stamped "Trifari" with the possible exception of the early 1930s.**This information was provided by legallyblond8016, a major Trifari collector.

Sprites are derived from European folklore and are mythical creatures. This is a water sprite known to breath air and water. They have the ability to fly. Her wings, tutu, and specter are studded with clear rhinestones. Her face has an oval ruby glass stone. Her longs legs and arms are also very much Murray Slater. She is gold plated over metal usually sterling although this one is unmarked. It is 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" . Circa 1940.

These bottles have sold in the past for upwards of $325.00 for clear ones.
Weeping bottles are occasionally seen in the hands of Grecian-dressed mourners on monuments in New England cemetaries, particularly that of Green-Wood in New York, where a life size mourner is depicted holding such a bottle up to her eye to save her tears. The concept is based on a verse from Psalm 56:8, where David returns from losing a battle and cries out to God. Hast Thou not saved by tears in Thy bottle? The idea of God saving mourners' tears of grief appealed to Victorian religious beliefs, and thus women would hold these receptacles up to their eyes, saving their tears, and keeping the container on their dressing table. Some traditional accounts hold that the weeping bottles would then be emptied over the grave on the first anniversary of their death.

Today it is illegal to mine jet in Whitby because the only jet left is in seams in the walls of the cliffs over the town. To remove it from the cliffs would cause them to tumble down and destroy the town. The two remaining jet cutters today have to rely on pieces that wash up on the beaches of this seacoast town. Because of its scarcity, jet jewelry is very precious, and early examples are avidly collected.
