Very fine and early Unsigned Sosuke Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Vase from the early 1880's. Sosuke often did not sign his early works. This piece has wonderful graduation of coloring from a sky blue ground at the top working its way down to lighter blues and finally to a soft grey ground. The vase has very thick enameling and is very heavy which is typical for Sosuke pieces. The piece weighs approx. 3 lbs 2 oz and is approx. 8 3/4" tall. I will let the photos tell the story and you can decide for yourself.
The vase is in excellent condition and displays beautifully.. It does have a few very small hairlines (shown in photos 10 and 11). There are some scratches and scuffing to the enamel. There is also a chip in the inside blue counter enamel right below the top rim (last photo). The top rim has a small dent in one area. The rims are brass over copper with most of the brass having worn away. The piece has pitting... typical of this period.
