This unique Sampler Quilt has both traditional and original blocks, many with hearts as an indication of the affection with which it was made. Written in ink it says "Presented by Lydia H Rounsavell April 5th, 1846". (Rounsavell was born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey in 1820). Several other blocks have inked signatures and the date 1845. Unfortunately, we do not know the occasion or for whom it was made. The good news is that it has been preserved with care and is in excellent condition with colors as vibrant as the day it was made.
Measurements are 70" square. The binding dates about 30 years later than the body of the quilt.
