It's safe to say that this folky sampler or album crib quilt is a one of a kind. The blocks are appliqued; ruched and embroidered.
Many are floral motifs but it also includes an American flag; eagle; stars and moon as well as two not quite determined animals. It's interesting that even though there is a range of detail and skill, it all appears to have been done by the same hand.
The front is a wool ground with primarily wool applique and embroidery that seems to be late 19th century. The ribbed velvet border may be closer to 1920. Measurements are 40" x 54"; Massachusetts origin.
