This Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt is a fine example of the logs often made of fine wool challis in Pennsylvania during the third quarter of the 19th century. This quilt has more going for it than being beautifully made and color coordinated. It is also well documented and illustrated in "Layers: Unfolding the Stories of Chester County Quilts". It is accompanied by a note saying it was "Made by Mary M. Shields about 1850 Log Cabin pattern". A copy of the book is included with the purchase. Mary lived from 188-1894 in Coatesville. Measurements are 84" x 86". The backing is fine glazed cotton. Condition is excellent.
