This delicate Rising Sun quilt is beautifully combined with four part appliques. The Suns are 6 1/2 inches in diameter, made with a fine variety of printed fabrics from the second quarter of the 19th century. The construction is interesting in that each Sun in placed within a diamond shaped block with one lobe of the applique in each corner.
The quilt has been professionally laundered. Upon very close examination, one can see small darned and weak areas to the red applique. They do dot detract from the beauty of this quilt as they are unobtrusive and finely done.
The quilt measures 72" x 92"; made circa 1840. It is from the Albany, New York area with extensive family history available.
