This beautiful Poppies quilt was designed by Marie Webster in 1912. In addition to publishing patterns, Webster sold quilt kits, basted quilts, and finished quilts. While very well known for her business, The Practical Patchwork Company, Webster was also the first quilt historian.
In 1915, she published "Quilts: Their Story and How to Make Them" which is still referenced today. Webster was inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame in 1991.
Webster's designs were mostly realistic floral patterns done in solid colors.
Poppies was one of her very popular designs done in the center medallion format popular in the early 19th century.
This Poppies is finely quilted and appliqued. It is freshly laundered and in excellent condition. The pink is a soft, dusty tone.
Made circa 1915.
