Direct from a southern CT collection, we are proud to offer a very seldom found 19th century apothecary powder folder. Powder folders were used to facilitate the packaging of medications by inserting powder into folded paper packets.

This nickel-plated example sports an appealing form secured on a circular iron base. Measuring just over 5 inches high, this pharmacy gem is complete and demonstrates the mildly worn and aged patina commensurate with a tool of the trade of this vintage and use. The knob works fine, and the apparatus's “wings” open and close easily.

Offered is a very nice, vintage, drug store, Bromo Seltzer Dispenser with a patent date of 1930.

This popular and very recognizable, pharmacy collectible is constructed of a cobalt blue glass base with an aluminum stand that sports an old bottle of Bromo Seltzer retaining a label dating to 1987. The stand measures just over 15 inches high including the bottle.

The condition is commensurate with a used pharmacy device. The base shows wear with various scratches, and the metal is tarnished. The dispenser mechanism rotates and functions properly. The piece was in storage for many years and retains its original, "as-found" patina. A very nice find!

Some history:
The Bromo Seltzer product takes its name from a component of the original formula, sodium bromide. Bromides are a class of tranquilizers that were withdrawn from the U.S. market in 1975 due to their toxicity. Their sedative effect probably accounted for Bromo-Seltzer's vast popularity back in the day as THE go-to remedy for hangovers!

Offered is a delightful 1940s era reverse painted pharmacy sign. This wood framed drug store sign measures 22.5 inches long x 14.5 inches wide.

Quite visually appealing, the sign is in very nice condition with a minor paint spot on the top center above the "L" and one on the top frame. There is light wear on the wood finish as well but it is not obtrusive.

Eli Lilly was a proud manufacturer of proprietary medicines for over a century and often provided signage to drug store owners to both assist in promoting these local pharmacies as well as to advertise their own products.

Offered is a scarce , pharmacy or drugstore, iron String Holder labeled "SSS for the Blood". "SSS for the Blood" was a 19th century patent medicine manufactured during the Victorian era. The medicine was a tonic that contained a high proportion of alcohol, and like many of its competitors of the time, claimed to be a cure for many different maladies.

The embossed "SSS for the Blood" lettering is present on both sides, and the pot-shaped holder is in very nice condition sporting a patina commensurate with its age. There has been one foot professionally replaced years ago. Measures about 5 inches high and ready for your collection!

Some History: Chances are the year 1826 doesn’t strike a deep historical chord to most Americans, but to the people at the S.S.S. Company, it was one of the most significant dates in history. For it was in 1826, that the mighty Creek Indians bequeathed a treasured remedy of theirs, now known as S.S.S. Tonic, to Captain Irwin Dennard of Perry, Georgia, as a reward for having saved the life of one of their Chieftains. Captain Dennard sold the formula to Colonel Charles T. Swift who also lived in Perry, Georgia, and Swift quickly formed a partnership with Colonel H.J. Lamar of Macon, Georgia, to bottle and sell the Tonic. In 1873, Colonel H.J. Lamar, foreseeing Atlanta as the future Metropolis of the South, moved the company to Atlanta. According to the company's history, the S.S.S. stood for Swift’s Southern Specific in the earlier years.
