John Henry Mole (British, 1814-1886)

Young Girl with a Ball

Watercolor on paper, signed with initials and dated: "1881"

John Henry Mole was a watercolorist and landscape painter. He was born in Alnwick, Northumberland. Mole worked as a clerk in a solicitor's office in Newcastle, but gave it up for miniature painting. He exhibited his miniatures at the Royal Academy (1845, 1846, 1879). He later turned to landscape painting, particularly in watercolor. Mole exhibited these paintings at the National Watercolour Society, the British Institution, the Society of British Artists, Grosvenor Gallery, and elsewhere. He was an Associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (1848) and Vice-President in 1884.
