Although Trump, has established himself as a visual artist, it was not the first path of creative expression he chose. After receiving a B.A. in Religious Thought from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972, Trump pursued a career as a writer of both fiction and poetry. However, by the late 1970s, he had turned to painting. His love of words was not abandoned in his new pursuit for he infused his paintings with text, often submerging poetic passages beneath a thin layer of paint.
Trump has designed sets for the Vermont Composers Festival in Putney, and has been the recipient of several Painting Fellowships from the Vermont Council on the Arts. He has exhibited his paintings in New York and throughout New England since 1981. His most recent work was featured in a solo exhibition at Reeves Contemporary in New York (April/May 2003), that traveled to New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire (July 2003).
