Maurice Le Blanc (French, 19th Century)
Bird with Two Chicks
Born in Braine-sur-Vesle at mid-century, Le Blanc regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français where he received an honorable mention in 1887. In this small but animated sculpture, a mother bird hovers over her two chicks, one seemingly chirping
to get her attention. The sculpture is signed and mounted on a marble base.
Le Blanc is listed in the Dictionnaire des Peintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs et Graveurs (Bénézit, 1999) and The Dictionary of Western Sculptors in Bronze (Mackay, 1977).
