Rare old woodblock print amulet for curing children's tantrums, from Ana Hachiman-gu (Takada Hachimangu) shrine in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Edo period, 19th century.
It was dedicated to be prayed for 7 years old boy as indicated. According to the old folksy medical belief in Japan, children's tantrums like baby colic or bed‐wetting were believed to be caused by the insects living in children's body, and Ana Hachimangu shrine was well-known miraculous place for curing such tantrums. But, this type of amulet with iron nails is hardly seen as never seen before.
