DAIKOKU ON THE ROOF
Tile statue of 'Daikokuten' (God of wealth) displayed on the house roof as the residential guardian god seen often in the western part of Japan including Kyoto area,
made by tile craftsman with the same material of its roof tile. Meiji-Showa period, early 20th century.
Mostly later pieces were made with casting, but this piece is uniquely and primitively hand-built as a rare piece. Some cracks and chips as seen. approx. H 19.5cm (7.67in)
