Meiji period (1868-1912), Ainu (Japan)

'Iku-pasuy' is the wooden stick used for sprinkling sacred libation dedicating to god in the traditional Ainu ritual called 'Iomante'. Ainu people didn't have the skill for making lacquer ware and they did treasured it so much, so that this piece was the one of trade stuff to Ainu people made by Japanese people in the mainland. Gold designs of clan, tortoise, and bamboo grass in the black lacquer. Triangular slit called "tongue" is given by Ainu people at backside triangle tip. approx. L 30.7cm (12.08in)
