A fine large Chinese armorial Export bowl of typical form, decorated to the outside with diaper, floral swags and heraldic devices including the letters 'J.C' (Howard mentions the Cholmondley family in connection with these initials), to the inside with diaper and a floral spray. 10 inches / 25.5 cms wide. Some rubbing of the gilding but otherwise very fine. Qianlong, late 18th century.

A mug of similar design, dated to 1790 and ordered by The Commercial Banking Company of Aberdeen is in the V&A (accession #3713-1901) and is illustrated in 'Chinese Export Art and Design', The Victoria and Albert Museum, 1987; page 78.
