An outstanding hand carved and painted mask which originated from a 19th century life-size leather costume. The mask measures 20" in length by 9" in height by 6" in width. It is carved from one piece of wood and painted in colors of black, white, red, orange, yellow, and shades of cinnamon brown. It has no restoration and is totally intact with no breaks or cracks. The red lips are pursed as if he is blowing wind. There is a small original hole drilled in the very top for hanging. It is timeless and finely executed piece of art created by the hand of a master artist of the time.

This finely designed necklace is comprised of a Maya ear spool, nose plug, and carnelian and jade beads to form the center pendant (Ca. 100 - 860 A.D.) mixed with old Navajo sterling silver elongated hollow beads to act as spacers and make the piece light and wearable. It has been professionally strung to a 16" wearable length. It is perfect for formal or casual wear and designed for adornment as well as practicality. An excellent use of treasures from ancient Mexico combined with fine hand made silver beads from The American Southwest. It is meant to be used as adornment rather than just gathering dust on a shelf although it would be outstanding mounted in a lucite shadow box.

CULTURE: Chimu ORIGIN: Peru / North Coast AGE: Ca. 1100 - 1470 A.D. DESCRIPTION: A small carved and inlaid box measuring 4 1/2" in length by 2 1/4" in height by 1 3/4" in width. Both longer sides and the top are ornamented with two deeply incised raptors with inlaid turquoise eyes. The ends of each wide side and top have inlays of turquoise and colored shell. There is a small wooden insert on the underside of the lid that may have been added at a later date to keep the lid in place and keep it from being misplaced. It is a small and beautifully crafted artifact that would show well in even the best collection.Provenance: A former Scottsdale, Arizona Gallery.
