This 8" tall whistling figure is in excellent condition even with a small amount of restoration to the tip of the headpiece, the end of the nose, and a small section of the axe in his left hand. It is from Veracruz Mexico and dates Ca. 600 - 900 A.D. The figure is a hollow molded warrior brandishing a round shield in one hand an an axe in the other. He is wearing a stylized mask with a half-moon shaped headpiece. Much of the original white painted slip remains as well as traces of the red. The whistling element is incorporated in the lower left leg. Provenance: Arte Primitivo, March, 2009.
