ORIGIN: South Coast Peru
AGE: 1100 - 1450 A. D.
DESCRIPTION: A beautifully balanced polychrome jar measuring 6" in height by 6" at the widest diameter. The base background color is a soft cinnamon brown. The design elements are in black, white, and dark orange. The design has been executed in eight quadrants. Four are orange triangles with four small white squares in the center. The other four are quadrangles with wide wavy black lines. There is black ticking around the flaring rim. The bottom is rounded to make the piece easy to balance when placed on a sandy surface. A circular lucite stand will be included with the piece to make it stand upright. The piece is a clean elegant shape with tastefully balanced art execution. The overall design most likely mimics textile designs of the period. A great non-pretentious ancient creation.Provenance: An old Florida collection.
