CULTURE: Nazca ORIGIN: South Coast Peru AGE: Ca. 100 B. C. - A. D. 600 DESCRIPTION: A classic Nazca polychrome double spout bridge jar in colors of burnt orange, black, tan, deep gray, and pale pinkish/tan. The jar measures 6" in height by 5" in diameter. It is absolutely intact and unrestored. There is some very minor scaling at the tips of the spouts due to ancient usage. Each side of the globe is ornamented with a large feline creature with a wide staring gaze and tall whiskers with trophy heads forming the base of the beard. Each of the four feet has trophy heads as claws. The main section of the body is deep gray with birdlike images enclosed within through the very tip of the upturned tail. This is truly Nazca at its color, design, and forming and firing of the ceramic globe itself. An excellent example of the type. Provenance: A well established auction house.
