ORIGIN: Central Mexico
AGE: Ca. 400 - 750 A. D.
SIZE: 7" in height by 3 1/2" in width by 4 1/2" in depth.
DESCRIPTION: A large exquisitely hand modeled seated terracotta effigy. This piece is highly ornamented with a complex ornate headpiece, a large triangular yoke collar with large round applied circular discs (most likely jade)... these same discs appear on both arms as well as on his elongated triangular waist cloth. He is wearing round bracelets on each wrist. His eyes and mouth are deeply incised and he has an elegant triangular aqualine nose. His countenance is calm, composed, and in control. An old break to his arm has been professionally reglued and there has been extremely minor restoration to the tip of his left foot and possibly the very bottom tip of his chin. He would make an outstanding and striking display piece for any collection.
