CULTURE: Narino ORIGIN: Ecuador AGE: Ca. 850A.D. - 1500A.D. SIZE: 4 1/2" in height by 6 1/2" in diameter DESCRIPTION: A finely molded seven sided star shaped jar from Ecuador. The base clay is a dark red-brown in color with remnants of the original black negative-resist painted designs vaguely visible on the top and underside of the vessel. The designs consist of upside down triangles and wide line elements on the underside with barely discernable triangles on the upper area. It is the unusual curious shape of this artifact which pleases the eye even without a strong paint element as the focal point. It is an all around beautiful and timeless ceramic creation.
