This outstanding boldly decorated ink well dates from around the turn-of-the-century, or slightly earlier and was cast in Austria. It measures 11” in length by 9” in width. The original glass insert has a few small “flea bites” but the lid usually stays closed and they aren’t apparent. The distinctive classic Art Nouveau desk piece is elaborately embellished with a pair of clover leafs on each end and one on the lid. The very front of the inkwell has a group of indented ovoid circles. It would make a splendid addition to an antique or modern desk top. It is in excellent condition with no dents or dings of any sort. It has been lightly polished to bring out the depth of the design. It was heavily cast with great care and is stamped on the bottom with the hallmark “GESCHUTZ” … a foundry in Austria known for its creativity and quality work.
