Culture: JAMA-COAQUE Origin: ECUADOR/MANABI PROVINCE/ COASTAL REGION AGE: Ca. 500 B.C. - 500 A.D. DESCRIPTION: A deftly molded lifelike ceramic “lime spoon” in the shape of a frog measuring 2” in length by 1 3/4” in width by 1” in depth and has been drilled through the left rear leg so it can be worn as a pendant. It most likely represents a poisonous dart frog given the circular punctuated areas on its back. This creative rotund crouching little figure has great charm. Remnants of the original lime are still visible in the circular holding area. There are two tiny chips or abrasions from ancient usage on the underside but they do not distract from the visual impact of the artifact in any way. For the lover of the rare and unusual.
