Japanese Soldiers in Meiji period uniform stand firm against overwhelming numbers on the gold accented side of this large baluster vase signed on the base Kaga Kutani Sei. The vase is commemorating the Japanese victory over the Chinese in the Sino-Japanese war dating circa 1895. Between colorful valances a pleasant landscape of weeping willows and gentle lakes, women and children and elderly people pleasantly passing her days. It comes in a large kiri-wood box, and the vase is 17-1/2 inches (45 cm) tall. There is a chip in the base, a crack up one side and the bottom has been repaired.
