A simple roundel of bamboo decorated with sagi (egrets) in a stream among tall reeds in gold dating from the Meiji period. It has been lacquered black on top, inside and on the bottom, sealing the bamboo and preventing splitting. The edges of the lacquer have been worn down, and the luster of the body faded to a soft matte, giving it a wonderful antique presence. It is 33.5 cm (13-1/2 inches) tall and in fine original condition.
