A stream meanders through verdant hills populated by tiled roofs rising above the brilliant foliage on this small two panel screen dating from the early Showa period (1925-1930s) signed Makoto. Pigment on silk in the original silk border with a wooden frame. It is 142 x 158.5 cm tall (56 x 62-1/2 inches). Possibly the work of Iwate artist Endo Makoto (b. 1891). Like a lot of artists working outside the main urban centers, little remains known of his life.
