Yano Kyoson(1890-1965)was a Japanese painter from the Taisho(1912-1926) and Showa era (1926-1989). In 1921 he founded Nippon Nangain with some famed and leading artists during the time such as Mitsui Hanzan, Kono Shuson(1890-1987), Komuro Suiun(1874-1945), Ikeda Keisen(1863-1931), and Mizuta Chikuho(1883-1958), and also studied at the private Osaka Art School with Fukuoka Seiran(1879-1954) and Western painter Saito Yori(1885-1959). He participated in the opening of the school, and after the war, he served as the chairman of the Japan Nanga(southern Chinese painting) Academy, and he also exhibited at Nitten, and played a key role in modern Nanga, winning the Japan Art Academy Award, the Osaka Prefecture Art Award, and the Osaka Citizens' Culture Award.
Some light marks are present on the painting itself, otherwise the painting is in very good vintage/antique condition. Some light marks are present on the scroll mounting. The piece is accompanied by an original double paulownia wood storage box with the artist’s signature, which indicates the piece has been very well respected and treated.
