Ink and colors and gold leaf on paper depicting three scenes from the tale of Genji (Genji Monogotari). The right side featuring Tokonatsu (chapter 26), E-awase (chapter 17) in the center and Wakamurasaki (chapter 5) at the left, the vignettes ponctuated by gold clouds in moriage relief. An attribution to the court artist Tosa Mitsunari (1646-1710) appears on an old label affixed to one edge of the screen. Some old restorations as visible on the photos. Edo period (1680-1700) 17/18th century. Dimensions : L380cm x H154cm (149"x 60") Provenance : purchased in Japan by Mr. George H. Macy in charge of the country's largest tea importers. His family's compagny in the late 19th century.
