Lovely antique cross of paste or rock crystal stones (not tested) set in early closed back sterling setting, the stones are nicely faceted into a point cut, which is like a rose cut except there is a sharp point at the very top. Not many jewels were made with stones such as these. Behind the stones it does appear like a black dot has been painted to imitate the cutlet of a diamond, something that was sometimes done on earlier Georgian jewelry.
It is in very good condition for the age without any replaced or reset stones. Very minimal wear as excepted from any genuine antique item. The metal was not cleaned, it was just wiped off (earlier jewelry cannot be submerged due to the closed back setting) and there shows some patina to the metal but aged really nicely
I am including a vintage sterling chain with it, the cross pendant was added to the locking ring clasp so it is easily removable. Circa early 1800s.
