Infant mortality was very common in the late Georgian and early Victorian era, many times the causes death was unknown. The life of the child was sometimes commemorated in paintings of them in clouds representing heaven. These sentimental paintings are not easily found and I love them, so I have collected them over the years when I could find them.
Here is one of those miniature paintings of a little girl on porcelain in a gold plated frame with a locking clasp to the reverse. I loved her very sweet little face looking down from the clouds with a tiny smile. This one is small enough for a doll to wear.
The painting is in very good condition with just minimal wear. I would say she is likely English in origin and circa late 1800s.
