When I started photographing this bebe, her face seemed to say to me ‘hey, look at me! I’m a cute bebe!’ And she really is! A delightful little German girl by Adolf Wislizenus she measures about 22” tall, has a nice quality bisque with nicely rendered with multi-stroke brows, lots of painted lashes, rosy cheeks and an open mouth showing a set of little teeth and red felt tongue and a little dimpled chin. Her eyes are set on the original rockers so they sleep. She still has her original brown curly full wig with cardboard pate and is on her original wooden composition, fully articulating body with all her fingers and toes intact.
She has had a bath, along with her wig I have gently hand washed to keep the original curly setting, so it was not immersed. There are no odors and never were. All of her clothing has been washed as well and her shoes I wiped off, even though she was already pretty clean. Her outfit consists of a lovely vintage long sleeve lilac cotton dress with rows and rows of tulle lace, cotton pantaloons, long socks and cream color shoes with little bow. The finishing touch: a big antique purple ribbon in her hair to match her outfit.
At some point she was restrung so it is nice and tight and she can hold any pose well. Her body shows wear around the joints with some missing paint on her arm and perhaps a few other small areas and a rub to the left chest. And as you see, any age related issues to her body are completely covered by her outfit. It looks like her rocker eyes were re-waxed and reset and she was professionally repaired at the top of her forehead which is only seen if lighted. Even though you can’t tell by just looking at her, the wig covers her forehead anyway. She displays beautifully with a very pretty face and has lots of personality!
