Here is a fabulous French antique box of Louis XV imagery on the cover and old filigree mounting set under an old celluloid or plastic (?) covering. The sides are covered with an old velvet and little gold color ball feet. Inside the box is lined with gathered ivory silk on one side, the other side was missing so gold damask fabric is place where the dolls lay. There is a boy and girl doll in elaborate costumes that look like the ones on the cover.
I was told they were likely French made, but I cannot see any makers mark on the necks. They are made of some kind of plastic, I think. They are not bisque. They're faces do appear to be hand painted. That's about all I know. I would say the box is from the late 1800s or early 1900s and the dolls are probably from the 1940s. Everything has been hand cleaned. * More images are available upon email request
