I obtained these two boxwood toggles in Beijing from the same dealer – albeit the two purchases were spearhead by 10 years. The one on the left is in very good condition but it has been washed. The right is older, has a viable nick in his lower jaw and is very dynamic. Each one has a ball in his mouth, a Buddhist “tiling’. The balls may be simulated tongues – to make the sound of a frog croaking.

The whole skin is a "mess" This brushpot, of boxwood is rare. It is dying for a trip away from North China. It wants some humidity and wants to be held and waxed. It is done as if the bark of a tree. 100 years old

The box has 4 dragon heads, 1 in each corner. It has a huangyangmu cover and the body is walnut and the entire design is huangyangmu inlay. What is that square design in the canter? No one seems to know. It looks to me like the axis on which BJ sits. Note please: there may be one or two little pieces of wood missing on the cover. Overall condition is very good. L is 31.5 cm x 17.5 cm wide x 5.5.

This is a late Ming early Qing large brushpot It is 18 cm tall and 14 cm wide. Panel 4 shows that there are 2 or 3 minor cracks on one side. These are caused by the very dry Beijing weather: all my humidifiers did not work well enough. Beautiful condition, luxurious patina great ghost eyes. gui-lier.

This is a genuine mid-Qing flower holder. The wood has been carved to resemble the trunk of a small tree, it has little "knobs" and branches throughout. The branches come out naturally from the trunk and then re-join it. This item was used as a flower holder to put on an official's desk or maybe that of his concubine. It is in excellent condition. H. is 13 cm, Diameter at the top is 5 cm, at the bottom it is 7 cm. On base a modest repair can be seen. It is a very nice repair job.
