The 3 legged Chan is a mythical Chinese animal. It is normally seen with another mythical figure, Liu Han. Here, we have a very large tree root Chan: the original shape of the root has been kept, just a little enhancement here and there. The Chan is large and imposing: it is sitting on a lotus leave and crouching, ready to jump at a moment's notice. Its appearance is rough, but the total effect is one of strength and vitality. The face of the Chan is at first glace quite ugly...

This blue and white porcelain brushpot was probably made around 1900. A long Chinese text covers the entire surface done in traditional calligraphy. It is a long story. The inscription in the base tells us that the pot was made by the Gao Zhou Fu porcelain industry factory (it existed in 19th century). That factory was in Zhanjiang in the southwest part of Guangdong. It is a port, the base city of the PLA Navy today. This factory no longer exists...

this is a very attractive zitan frame with a marble inset. The zitan frame is currently complete but not put together. The buyer can have it sent whole or as is. The marble stone shows mountains in the background with clouds. It is not original to the frame but fits it very well. The brass hook is original to the frame. This ensemble would have graced the wall of a scholar's study. The frame is 9.5 inches long and 7 inches wide.

A Triptych of frog "toggle" and toggle. The objects on the left are strictly speaking not toggles: there are no holes for stringing a cord through. They were used as little paper weights, in all likelihood. The legs of the frogs are straight, not folded in. The third object has folded in legs, could have been used as toggle or a paper weight. The condition of the 3 varies: one on far left: OK. A little wounded and may not be zitan...

Belt buckles of this quality rarely make it to market. The loops at the back are broken through age, carelessness and use. This one, although quite old: has survived intact. There is a dragon or some other mythical (a jilin?) animal carved on the face.
