This is a small but elegantly and elaborately carved zitan small brushpot, or a vessel for holding various tools. Middle Qing. Excellent condition even as a few minor chips on the rim.

This is a set of 8 small wine cups each with silver inlays. Six of them are virtually identical, two are not of the set. They were all used in a Hebei provincial household until being recently sold off. I have never seen so many at one go. The Zitan is fine, the silver inlays are as if they were drunk from a week ago. As is where is.

This beautiful "tray" was used in the Qing dynasty by artists and scholars either to "dry" their brushes or as a palette for their inks. The rosewood is elaborately carved with insects associated with water, a prominent pair of beetles facing each other may be seen. They rest on a flat lotus leaf of 33 sections. It has been carved out at the petals. There are no discernible defects.

This is a zitan brushpot carved to resemble a section of a tree trunk, all very naturalistic. It is a "medium sized" pot. It is 12 cm high, 10.5 cm wide at the diameter. It is Mid-Qing, probably Qianlong. Very good patina, no cracks or chips, in excellent condition.

This is beautifully patinated drum shaped fitted round box. The patination is rich, the effect is a dark warm deep brown color throughout. The top and bottom fit together perfectly, this was carved from one piece of burl. Measurements to follow. A very beautiful round box for the scholar's studio.

Palm wood brushpots are very rare. I believe I have only seen one, in the collection of a well-known American collector. None ever seen in the Beijing market. The grain is fantastic: the basic color is dark brown, but there are orange stripes throughout. This is one piece of palmwood; the base is not added in, but has been the base since the pot was made. This pot is 19.5 cm at the diameter, 20 cm high; and weighs 2.8 kg...

This is a huge ceramic Boar for the Year of the Boar This could be very old. It was sold to me many years as Han or Tang, but ceramics is not my world. The glaze covers most of him, there are a few chips here and there but it is a very strong boar.

This is a paperweight of a stone I do not know. It is well-carved into a Buddha's hand, no seeming defects. There is a little lizard elegantly carved on the top of the "hand". It is made of Qingtian (Chingtian) stone, which comes from Zhejiang, in East China. Qingtian has a long history in China, it is an important even famous stone. It is warm to the touch, it has a stand for viewing.

This is a huanghuali huacha. That literally means it is a flower (bud) vase but could also hold incense sticks, small tools, etc. As the photos show, this is two pieces: the main cylinder is 14 cm tall, the feet are another 1 cm. The diameter is 5 cm at the top, about 4.5 cm at the bottom. The piece is thus beautifully almost not noticeably tapered from top to bottom. The separate plug (seems like a spoon of sorts)in frame 7 is 2.5 cm tall with a diameter of 2 cm...

A toggle of boxwood in a "Buddhist Prayer Wheel" style. Great carving on both sides, reticulated. It sits on a hand-made stand, done in Beijing by a noted craftsman. Can be worn as a toggle. Beautiful work through out, a small nick on one side.

This is a finely carved "Buddhist Prayer Wheel" style toggle, full of ruyi on front and back. This is exquisitely reticulated. The boxwood has developed a fine patina. The stand was made in Beijing by a well-known contemporary carver. But this piece can equally be used as a toggle. From its patina, it clearly has been.
