This zitan box is for carrying silver chopsticks to a banquet. In less amiable days, silver chopsticks were used to test food to see if it was or was not poisoned. If the silver chopsticks turned black, the food had arsenic in it. Today: as a courtesy to guests, silver chopsticks may still be used. The box is a lighter than normal zitan, the top fits snugly into the box and needs to be gently pushed to open and close. Probably early 20th Century.

This very old pot -- it has many wrinkles on the rim and all over the pot -- is of an unknown wood. It shows a Monkey or an abstract human and maybe some tree. It is so ugly as to be very beautiful indeed. I make no claim about the wood; it is neither zitan nor huanghuali but probably of some extinct Chinese wood. H is 13 cm, diameter is 12 cm. It has had a long history of travel: Beijing, Hong Kong, the US and now it is back in China. Where will it go next?
