Maki Poem Z a Heart by any other name Maki began to use this theme early in his artistic life the character was normally vertical summits horizontal but this is the only time it was at an angle from the center and seemingly lacking in one stroke Hence it is an unusual design and intellectually challenging. Its meaning is not immediately evident even to the literati My curator in Beijing figured it out when she was opening the package and tilted it a bit. The print is large and subtle...

In 1960 Maki did the image shown. It is called “symbol” In all the years of collecting Maki prints and images I have never seen this one again It is quite large but seems cluttered. ‘forty years later he did it as a print and a post card even as one friend has suggested he did the print before 1999 the date on the print. The seals are authentic not printed: and they are original Maki seals from well-used chops.

one of Maaki’s favorite themes was the image show ; some outstanding ones are shown in the listing, ‘I reckon Maki did about 25 different prints with the theme Child. Several little child can be seen swimming in the image in frame 9 the child in the right of this list panel is the image imprinted in the cover to Festive Wine, to which Maki contributed 21 images in 1969

Haku Maki started doing his embossed prints circa 1965, these were in the main unbiased prints with the embossing coming out from he back to t he front However, I suddenly discovered that a number of prints in the 1976 - 1976 and 1977 period were done with the embossing going into not out of the front This style or process does not seem to have hurt any aspect of Maki’s work nor benefited it I have commented on this departure in style to a few friends but they have said the equivale...

The striking kanji means Rising. Maki produced this image in 1970 as a modest black on white print. This print is Poem 70- 48 (rising): The kanji, which is the print's core theme, is reiterated in the title. When this print first came out, it must have in a winner: 59/151 . This print has a golden yellow sun and a light blue tear or splash to give it verve. This is the Maki style. A year later in 1971 Maki produced a Big Red, the same character shown here was done as a Red kanji in striking image...
