This ring has been in my collection for decades, since 1980 in fact. It’s called Serenity but I’ve always called it my flattened egg ring. According to Georg Jensen archives, the ring was designed by Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe in 1974 (sometimes people accredit it to other designers). It is no longer in production.

Japan Haku Maki 1965 or so Cell B This is a very early Maki print . He did it no later than 1966 it depicts many cells of a human all done very explicitly and clearly Cell was an early Maki theme He used it less than a dozen times the cells must have been busy re-creating themselves But here they seem calm and static Embossed z

1971 was a big year for Haku Maki He did over 100 different images of Japanese prints. Some, like this one, were big prints--this one, Poem 71-91, is 30.5 Inches x 15.25. It is 68/108. This is the abstract kanji for Mu or Nothing and he titled it Nothing The kanji starts at the top then cascades down to the final four strokes at the bottom. From a distance it appears to me like the steps going from top to bottom of a building on a Chinese hill on the Yangzi. Rare and dramatic, fully restored. The back has tape remnants which are stable and cannot be removed.

Here are catalogues from Yoseido, CWAJ (College Women’s Association of Japan) print shows and Red Lantern. Most were gifts from Ayame Flint (CWAJ) and Al Brandt (Red Lantern). These are not complete runs but a strong selection. Each catalogue has images of prints of Japanese artists of the day.

This six-sided bangle is a truly rare Georg Jensen piece and undoubtedly has gone out of production. It was bought in 1968 and has not been worn very much. This is a design done more than 50 years ago and a long-time GJ dealer in New York says he cannot remember ever having seen the piece. Inside one of the six sides of the bangle is the Georg Jensen mark in a circle of dots, 925S Denmark, and the number 177. The internal diameter is 7cm (2.75in).

This Georg Jensen sterling silver and onyx ring—no.97—was created decades ago (probably in the 1950s) by the jewelry designers Nanna and Jorgen Ditzel. Their NJ mark is inside the ring as well as the Georg Jensen mark, 925-S, Denmark, and the number 97. The ring sits about a centimeter or roughly a quarter of an inch above the finger. The onyx stone is carved in the cabochon manner, on the top and bottom of the stone. A large stone, it measures about 25mm x 18mm. It is mounted in an incomparable setting. The ring size is US 6.5 – 7.5. Its design makes its size somewhat flexible, allowing a larger finger to wear it comfortably. I have owned it for more than 50 years but have almost never worn it, so it has no real wear and tear.

The big red Poem 71–74 is a rarely seen Maki Big Red. It shows a three-character phrase from Daoist literature 心善渊 “Heart like a deep pool, clear and calm, not affected by external environment.” As depicted by Maki, it is a stunning print. It was seen electronically but once in the past decade. It is coming back to Asia with a big red roar. It is embossed, the red design surrounded by black ink, and is typical of a short period in Maki’s life—the early 1970s—when he did such dramatic prints. This big red has it all—pink splash on the kanji, a blue dash above the black field and a black sun below the red field.
