A very rare and unusual pair of pressed tea counters decorated in fine detail with a lady and a gentleman in 18C. robes.The practice of compressing tea leaves into solid blocks was commonly employed in Central Asia and western China where the blocks were sometimes used as currency . But here the pressed tea is used rather like papier mache as an art medium .size: 5 3/4 inches x 3 1/2 inches.(15 x 9 cm). condition: very good, only a small splinter to the upper corner of the lady's counter. age: 19C.
