During the Cultural Revolution, criticism sessions were conducted as a way of implementing the latest direction from the Central Government. Called “The Revolution Big Criticism”, this wood block print shows a Red Guard holding what might be a stick, hitting two enemies, the Chinese characters accompanying these two in defeat positions says “Ultra Lefties” and “America and Capitalist (Soviet Union). Post Sino-Soviet split in 1960, Soviet was to be classified as another Capitalist like America. The background shows the people in resolve , the white characters says “Attend Most closely to the Revolution Big Criticism”. Undated. 31” x 21.5”
