Bas relief copper representation of Leonardo Da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' dating to the early 20th century, German. This is an exquisitely detailed rendering in copper set in an ebony wood frame with fine detailing not often seen in this medium, artist unknown. Copper is bright and shiny, appears never to have been cleaned, excellent condition, some pitting in upper left corner (see photo), slight damage to lower right corner of frame (see photo).
Purchased from a fine German estate in Germany, in the town of Aue (near Zwickau, former East Germany), apparently hidden through World War II and beyond. Mounting on back of frame bears an original label in German (hard to read) that states: 'Haupt von Bl --- 104 Wunden, Wie soll Dich empfunden' with AIRS at the top of the label, JC with an anchor at the bottom of the label.
Had been originally hung with 2 hooks at the top of the frame, one intact, the other had come loose, attached on back with tape. Should be re-anchored or restrung to be properly hung.
Dimensions including frame: approx 25 inches by 15.75 inches by 2.875 inches deep. Without frame: 19.75 inches by 9.75 inches
