From the turn of the century, Meiji era, is this Japanese wood money box, zenibako, with its original iron hardware. The box's top has a lift top lid and a money slot. The drawer under the slot would originally have locked, but the mechanism is broken. The lock that held the lift top lid down is also non functioning which prevents it from being carried by the handle. The wood shows scratches and loss of patina. There is a corner metal strip on the face of the box which is missing. Two other iron corner pieces have lost a small bit of their plate.
