Large chawan of irregular, slightly ovoid shape. Light-colored stoneware, decorated with incised rings on the outside. Inside the rings a translucent green glaze collects and drips down. On the bottom inside, the green translucent glaze has collected, topped with a splash of blue and white glaze. Underneath the translucent green, in the areas where it collects, is gold dust and gold leaf, shimmering through the glaze as the light falls on it. Probably Seto ware (stoneware and glaze very much resemble ki-Seto), Japan, Meiji era, 19th century.
