Circular bent-wood lunchbox, consisting of one tray and three layers of four fan-shaped covered boxes for food. The center of the box is left free, and can hold a flask of sake. On the side forged iron handles with square holes, so that the box can be carried from a pole. Wood covered with brown clear lacquer. Height 8 ¾ inches, diameter 11 ½ inches. Beautiful patina, obvious traces of usage, crack in cover, two cracks in bottom, some wormage in cover, bottom reinforced with two pieces of wood later on and outside Japan. Japan, 19th century.
