Chinese Peranakan Embroidery Slippers Sampler Framed
This is an antique framed embroidered needlework tops of slippers, the uppers. It is super finely hand stitched on a fine white background. There are approximately 45 stitches per inch across. This might be the base for bead-work, I understand the ladies would bead over the needlework. It shows a very faint red seal stamp in the middle of the first slipper. It is framed in a faux bamboo frame. Mounted on silk. The frame measures 19 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches. Circa 1920.
These are attributed to Peranakan that are Chinese descendants that settled in the Malay Archipelago, Malaysia, and Singapore.
We have had a Trocadero Customer suggest they might not be Peranakan but more Canton for the European market.
